    The Sacred Heart men’s hockey team had 18 student-athletes named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team on Monday. Three Pioneers earned their second selections to the All-Academic Team.

    The Sacred Heart men’s hockey team will play in the 2014 Frozen Holiday Classic at Webster Bank Arena Dec. 27-28, Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment announced on Monday. The inaugural tournament field includes UConn, Quinnipiac, and current national champion Union.
  • Will Rayner and Ben Lake Named Men’s Hockey Captains For 2014-15 Season

    Will Rayner (Needham, Mass.) and Ben Lake (Calgary, Alb.) have been named the captain and assistant captain, respectively, for the men’s hockey team for the 2014-15 season, head coach C.J. Marottolo announced on Friday. Rayner and Lake were voted to the captaincy by their teammates.
  • Justin Danforth Named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year

    Freshman forward Justin Danforth (Oshawa, Ont.) was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Year on Thursday. Danforth led the Sacred Heart men’s hockey team with 24 assists and 29 points in the 2013-14 season.
  • Men’s Hockey Falls To Canisius 5-0, Gets Swept Out Of Atlantic Hockey Tournament

    For the second straight night, the Sacred Heart men’s hockey team was held scoreless as the Canisius Golden Griffins won 5-0 Saturday night at Buffalo State Sports Arena to sweep the first round Atlantic Hockey Tournament series between the two teams.

    Freshmen Justin Danforth (Oshawa, Ont.) and Mitch Nylen (Lawrenceville, Ga.) of the Sacred Heart men’s hockey team were named to the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Rookie Team on Thursday. Sacred Heart is the only team in the conference to have two All-Rookie selections.

    MILFORD, Conn – The Sacred Heart Pioneers rebounded from Friday’s heartbreaking overtime loss with a 2-1 win over UCONN Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion to salvage a weekend split with the Huskies. SHU closes out the regular season with an 11-16 Atlantic Hockey record. The Pioneers were 2-21-4 in the AHA last season.

    MILFORD, Conn – The Sacred Heart men’s hockey team held a 3-2 lead on UCONN with less than a minute left in regulation Friday night, but could not close the deal, falling to the Huskies, 4-3, in overtime at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The Pioneers fall to 10-16 in the Atlantic Hockey Association and currently sit in tenth place with one game to go in the regular season.

    Sacred Heart men’s hockey forwards Drew George (Regina, Sask.) and Spencer Graboski (Quesnel, B.C.) have been named the Travel Team USA Player and Rookie of the Week by Atlantic Hockey, the conference announced on Tuesday. The duo had a combined nine points as the Pioneers swept Bentley to move into ninth place in the league.

    The Sacred Heart men’s hockey team completed a season sweep of the Bentley Falcons Saturday night, winning 5-2 at the John A. Ryan Skating Arena. The Pioneers earned their second weekend sweep of the season, beating the second-place team in Atlantic Hockey three times this year.

    The Sacred Heart men’s hockey team came back from 4-3 down in the third period to defeat the Bentley Falcons 5-4 at Milford Ice Pavilion Friday night. The Pioneers got goals from Spencer Graboski (Quesnel, B.C.) and Jeff Carroll (Kingston, Ont.) in the final three minutes to earn their 10th win of the season.

    Freshman Mitch Nylen (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scored in the final second of regulation Friday night to give the Sacred Heart men’s hockey team a 4-3 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles at Milford Ice Pavilion. The win is the Pioneers’ first against Niagara in 11 meetings.
