Twelve Sacred Heart Men's Hockey Players Named to Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team
(Fairfield, CT) – The Atlantic Hockey Association announced its All-Academic Team, with 12 Sacred Heart Pioneers making the list for posting a 3.0 GPA or better through both semesters of the 2011-12 academic season.
Senior Chris Bailer (Sr, D, Red Deer, AB) finished his career at SHU as a four-time honoree. Three-time honorees include juniors Tommy Castonguay (Jr, F, Rimouski, QUE), Eric Delong (Jr, F, Oakville, MAN), Neil McKenney (Jr, F, Buffalo, N.Y.), Steven Legatto (Jr, G, Kelowna, BC), and Alex Stuart (Jr, D, Sauk Rapids, Minn.). Senior Anthony Yelovitch (Sr, F, Little Falls, N.J.) graduated this year with his second selection. Freshmen Andrew Bodnarchuk (Fr, G, Saskatoon, SASK), Jared Eng (Fr, F, North Vancouver, BC), and Brian Sheehan (Fr, F, St. Louis, Mo.) all made the list for the first time in their rookie seasons, while juniors Doug MacLean (Jr, F/D, Downington, Pa.) and Mitchell Stretch (Jr, D, Saskatoon, SASK) joined them as well as first-time honorees.
"It is obviously a great accomplishment that we here at Sacred Heart are very proud of", said head coach C.J. Marottolo. "To balance academics and athletics is not easy and obviously these young men have great discipline and determination to achieve excellence in the classroom and on the ice."
