Sacred Heart's Adnrew Strom Qualifies for New York Amateur Championship

Sacred Heart sophomore Andrew Strom (Endwell, NY) earned a spot in the 87th New York State Amateur Championship over the weekend, qualifying for the event at Albany Sectional. Strom will compete at the 87th NYSGA Men's Amateur Championship which will be played at Ravenwood Golf Course beginning July 14th.

Sectional qualifying will take place throughout the month of June with 518 entries. Strom finished tied for 16th in the Albany Sectional at the Van Patten Golf Course. Strom shot a 77 (+5) to finish as one of 18 qualifiers at the event.

The format for the championship is very similar to one that the USGA sanctions for their national amateur tournaments. The first 2 days are a 36-hole stroke play qualifier with the top 32 players advancing to the match play portion of the event. In the event of any ties involving more than 32 golfers advancing, a playoff will be held.
