Leopoldo Garcia of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico has committed to play golf for the Pioneers and head coach Ed Connolly. Garcia signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period and he will enroll at Sacred Heart University this fall.

"I think that in Sacred Heart University I can develop myself as a person and golfer. I'm very excited of becoming a Pioneer and hope to play my best golf. We will work together in order to get SHU in top of every tournament."

Garcia comes to Fairfield, Connecticut with an impressive resume including the 2006 and 2007 Puerto Rico Junior Island Championships, an event he finished as the runner-up in 2005. Garcia also won the 18 & Under Three Kings Invitational Championship in 2005 and 2007.

He was a member of the Puerto Rico Amateur Team at The Spirit International Amateur and the 2007 Trinidad & Tobago Open and one of the two junior players to compete at the 2007 USGA Men's State Team Championship. Garcia served as the 2007 Puerto Rico Junior National Team Captain and was ranked the #1 player for the Puerto Rico Junior Team in 2006 and 2007.

He posted a 71.00 scoring average at 2007-2008 PRHSAA High School tournaments and a 73.91 scoring average at PRGA Junior Golf tournaments in 2007 and 2008. He tied for 40th at the 44th Junior Orange Bowl International Championship at Biltmore, Coral Gables in December of 2007 where he shot a 69 in the second round of the event.
