BREWSTER, Mass. (October 22, 2007) - Sacred Heart senior golfer Patrick Fillian (Tinton Falls, NJ) shot a 76 on the first day of competition at the 73rd annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at the Captain's Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts. The Pioneers are tied for 17th overall at the event.

Fillian's +4 (38-38=76) leaves him tied for 23rd overall but just six stroke off the leader, Brian Cawley of Salem State (-2). Fillian will complete play tomorrow on the par 72, 6,600 yard course.

Junior Kevin Lauretti (Newington, CT) is the Pioneers second golfer with a 77 carded on day one. Lauretti shot a 37 on the front nine and a 40 on the the back to finish round one tied for 35th overall in the field of 209 golfers. Junior Matt Belizze (North Salem, NY) is just two-strokes behind Lauretti after shooting 80 (+8). He sits tied for 85th.

The University of Connecitcut owns the team lead at +12, two strokes in front of the University of Rhode Island. The 42 team even concludes on Tuesday with a final 18 holes.
