BREWSTER, Mass. (October 20, 2008) - Sacred Heart senior golfer Patrick Fillian (Tinton Falls, NJ) is in first place and has the Pioneers in first place after the first round of 74th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship on Monday. Fillian's first round even-par 72 has him tied atop the leaderboard with Brown's Michael Amato heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Fillian fired a 35 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine to card a 72 on the 6,610 yard Captains Golf Club. The Pioneers as a team own a nine-shot lead over Dartmouth College, shooting a 302 with three golfers in the top-five and the fourth in the top-20 at the 43 team event that features 216 golfers.

Sitting tied for fourth at the event is senior Matt Belizze (North Salem, NY) and junior Adam Petrasovic (Tecumseh, Ontario) with matching 76's. Freshman Martin Crane (Danbury, CT) is tied for 20th overall after shooting a 78 over the first 18-holes.
