RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (October 12, 2008) - Sacred Heart seniors Patrick Fillian (Tinton Falls, NJ) and Matt Belizze (North Salem, NY) each shot 219 to finish two-strokes back of the lead at the 2008 ECAC Championship at the Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, New York. The Pioneers as a team finished fourth at the event with a three-round score of 901.

Belizze came up with the round of the tournament on Saturday, shooting a five-under 66, his career-low score as a Pioneer, to cap his best-ever finish. Belizze shot a 76 and 77 over the first two round but came back with a blistering round on Saturday to best the field and earn a second place finish.

Fillian shot a 79 over his first 18-holes but came on strong to fire matching 70's in round two and three to finish with a 219 at the event. Fillian has been on fire all fall, picking up two NEC Golfer of the Week awards thus far as he registers his third top-10 finish on the year.

Junior Adam Petrasovic (Tecumseh, Ontario) finished tied for 30th with a 231 (78-77-76) while senior Kevin Lauretti (Newington, CT) rounded out the SHU top-four with a 233 (81-75-77), good for 39th.

The Yale Bulldogs won the event with a team score of 892 with Ben Wescoe winning medalist honors shooting 217 (76-71-70).

The Pioneers round out the fall at the NEIGA 74th Fall Championship next weekend at the Captain's Golf Club in Brewster, MA.
