The Sacred Heart men's golf team is in eighth place after the first day of competition at the ECAC Championships at the Tunxis Plantation Golf Course in Farmington, Connecticut. The Pioneers (303) are within just five strokes of the fifth place team, Fairfield University, with everyone chasing Monmouth who is out front with a team score of 288.
Leading the way for the Pioneers is the one-two punch of sophomore Tom Campbell (Wall, NJ) and freshman Matthew Belizze (North Salem, NY). Both are currently tied for 9th individually with a first round score of even par 72.
Not far behind the duo is freshman Kevin Lauretti (Newington, CT) who shot a score of 75 over the first 18-holes and is tied for 24th overall.
The low score of the day was shot by Quinnipiac's Kyle Chumas who fired a 3-under score of 69.
The Pioneers will wrap up-play in the 36-hole tournament tomorrow afternoon.
