Complete CCSU Invitational Results

The Sacred Heart men's golf team took 6th place at the Central Connecticut Invitational over the weekend on the strenght of two top-10 performances. The one-two punch of sophomore Tom Campbell (Wall, NJ) and freshman Matthew Belizze (North Salem, NY) led the Pioneers to a strong finsh among the 12 teams at the event.

Campbell fired a first day 71, one under par on the Stanley Golf Course in New Britain and then came back with a matching 71, on Sunday to finish second overall at the tournamnet, one stroke back. CCSU's Brendan Ray took the individual title wiht a two round score of 141 (68-73).

Belizze was equally as strong in just his second collegiate event shooting a 149 (74-75) over the two days to finish tied for ninth overall.

Fellow freshman Kevin Lauretti (Newington, CT) fired a 153 with a 78 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday to finished tied for 29th overall.

"To say that we are very excited about our team this season would be an understatement," stated head coach Mike Giaquinto. "We have a solid core of returning athletes, Tom Campbell (So.), Pat Fillian (So.), Rob Thurston (Jr.) that are maturing nicely. Additionally we have added two freshman who have already mad an impact on our team performance, Matt Belizze (North Salem, NY) and Kevin Lauretti (Newington, Ct). Dave Polchinski transferred to us this year from Stetson University (Fl) that fills out our competition squad nicely."
 

 

"This past weekend we competed in a tournament at Central Connecticut State Univ. were we finished 6th out of 12 teams which was only 14 strokes out of first place. Leading the team was Tom Campbell who played the 36 hole tournament with a score of 142 (2 under par) and tied for low medalist."
