New Britain, CT (September 15, 2003) - The Sacred Heart University men's golf team opened their 2003 season with a 12th place finish at the Blue Devil Invitational at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, CT. Dustin Ledda and John Molchan led the team with a 39th place finish, shooting a +15 (158) for the weekend.

"The weather over the weekend was bad, and some of the scores suffered because of it," said head coach Michael Giaquinto. "The course was very wet."

Rob Thurston shot a +32 (175) while teammate Glenn Zavorskas finished right behind him with a 176. Mike Giaquinto rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers with a 190.

Molchan had the low round on the weekend for SHU, shooting a +5 (77) on Sunday. That was a four shot improvement from Saturday when he shot a +9 (81). Ledda shot +7 (79) on both days.

"This is a rebuilding year for us, we hope to place well in the upcoming events. Although most of the team is new, we all get together well. I believe in time we will fulfill our expectations," said co-captain Mike Giaquinto.

The Pioneers will be at the Dartmouth Invitational this coming weekend on September 20-21 in Hanover, NH.
