Lopatcong, NJ - The Sacred Heart University men's golf team closed out the 2004 spring season with a ninth place finish at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship on Tuesday at the Architects Club in Lopatcong, NJ. Senior Dustin Ledda (Torrington, CT) led the Pioneers with a 161 for the Championship, which was good to tie for 20th overall.

SHU was in tenth place as a team after shooting an opening day 336. That scored improved by 16 strokes as they shot 320 as a team to move into ninth and were just four shots behind eighth place Mount St. Mary's.

Junior Kevin Gordon (Floral Park, NY) and freshman Albert Ruggiero (Sudbury, MA) tied for the low round in the Championship for the Pioneers as they each shot 79 on the second day, finishing with a 164 and 165 respectively.

Freshman Rob Thurston (Newton, MA) improved four strokes over the first day and finished with a 168 for the Championship. Junior Mike Giaquinto (Fairfield, CT) rounded out the scoring for Sacred Heart with a 173.
