4th Annual Monmouth Hawk Invitational Final Results
LAKEWOOD, N.J. (March 29, 2009) - The Sacred Heart men's golf team fired a second round 288 with senior Patrick Fillian (Tinton Falls, NJ) leading the way with a 139 as the Pioneers won the 4th Annual Monmouth Hawk Invitational Sunday afternoon. Fillian took home medalist honors by six strokes at the 36-hole event.
The Pioneers took 14 strokes off their Saturday score of 302 to finish with a 36-hole total of 590. Lafayette, who held a one stroke lead over the Pioneers on Saturday, finished second at the event, giving up the lead after a 290 team score on Sunday.
Sacred Heart's top-four golfers all turned in score cards placing them in the top-20 in a field of 59 golfers.
Fillian took home the tournament title by answering his Saturday round of two-under 70 with a blistering 69 on Sunday. His 139 placed him six strokes ahead of second place finisher Robert Cerabone of Fairleigh Dickinson.
Freshman Leo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) took home sixth in the event by shooting matching 74's in both rounds (148). Sophomore David Renski (North Stonington, CT) took eight strokes off his Saturday round to fire a one-under 71 on Sunday, climbing up the leaderboard to 13th place.
Rounding out SHU's top-four was senior Kevin Lauretti (Newington, CT) who lopped five strokes off his round one score of 79, shooting 75 on Sunday to finish 20th at the event held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Lakewood, New Jersey.
The Pioneers also won the event during the 2007 season, claiming the top-three individual spots. Adam Petrasovic (Tecumseh, Ontario), Tommy Campbell (Wall, NJ) and Fillian finished first, second and third as the Pioneers won the team title with a score of 579.

Sacred Heart returns to action in two weeks when they take part in the 2009 New England Division I Championship at the Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence, RI.
