WEST ORANGE, N.J.— The Sacred Heart men's golf team ended its fall slate with a second-place finish at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate held at Montclair Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers hit a new a fall season low with a single round of 292 in the tournament's second & final round on Tuesday. The final round moved them up two spots on the team leaderboard and just seven strokes back of NEC competitor, CCSU for the top spot. St. Peter's University rounded out the top three with a team score of 602.
Senior Matt Shubley continued his strong fall season with a seventh-place finish in the event. Shubley shot a one-over, 71 in the final round to finish with a score of 145. Freshman Saptak Talwar had another top 20 finish finishing with a two-day score of 149, good for a tie in 11th place. Junior Alex Manner was the Pioneers biggest climber on the leaderboard with a two-over, 72 in the final round. The score moved him up 18 spots in the leaderboard to tie for 14th place. Junior Hector Gutierrez fired back-to-back rounds of 76 to finish 12-over in the event. Senior Curtis Quinn fired a three-over, 73 on day two to move up nine spots in the event, finishing in 53rd at 22-over.
The Pioneers will look to carry the late success this fall season into a competitive spring slate as they look to compete for the Northeast Conference Championship.
