FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Rising senior Matt Shubley of the Sacred Heart Men's Golf team was named Golf Coaches Association of America Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar on Monday afternoon.
Shubley was an All-Northeast Conference second team selection this past year. He led the Pioneers in scoring with an average round of 75.6 in nine tournaments. His best finish this past season was fifth at the SHU Fall Classic with a score of 11-over par. Shubley shot his second career under par round at 71 in the second round of the BCU Gary Freeman Invitational. He led the Pioneers group at the 2017 NEC Tournament with a score of 16-over par. Shubley, a finance major, earned NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll for the third consecutive year for his work in the classroom.
260 student-athletes from Division I were recognized with the honor. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
