Men's Golf Sits in Eighth After Day One of Northeast Conference Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished up the first round of the Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championship at LPGA International in eighth place.

Redshirt sophomore Jacob Henny paced the scoring group at six-over par to sit tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard. Junior Matt Shubley is also tied at +6 through the first 18 holes. Shubley picked up birdies on the par-four fourth hole and the par-three twelfth hole. Senior AJ Correia currently sits tied for 26th on the leaderboard at eight-over par. Correia also shot two birdies on the day with one on the par-five eighth hole and the other on the par-four 10th hole. Junior Tom D'Andrea finished one stroke back of Correia at +9. He picked up two birdies on final four holes of the day, including one on the 18th par-four. Sophomore Hector Gutierrez closed out the Pioneers scoring with a score of 84 to sit tied for 38th. He also closed out the day with a birdie on the 18th hole. 

SHU finished the day with a team score of 317 and currently sit three strokes back from defending champions, Wagner and St. Francis U who sit tied for sixth at +26. Bryant leads the field with a team score of +8 and hold a nine-stroke edge over second place FDU. 

The Pioneers tee off the second round tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
