Men’s Golf Opens 2014 Spring Season Tied For Fourth After First Round of Lonnie Barton Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team opened its spring season Monday with the first round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational at the LPGA International Champions Course.

Pete Ballo (Stamford, Conn.) and Ross Kronberg (New Canaan, Conn.) each had the Pioneers' low scores of the day. The duo carded seven-over 79s in the first round, putting them tied for 16th overall. Jeff Cohen (Windham, N.H.) shot 80 on Monday to put himself in a tie for 21st. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) rounded out the Sacred Heart scoring group with a nine-over 81 to tie for 25th individually.

The Pioneers tied with Saint Francis U for fourth place in the team competition, as Sacred Heart and the Red Flash finished the opening round with team scores of 319, +31 over par. Robert Morris leads the tournament after the first round with a team score of +10 298, five shots clear of Fairleigh Dickinson. Bryant is third at +17.

The final round of the tournament is Tuesday.
