Three Pioneers Earn All-NEC Honors
Nov. 30, 2009
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 30, 2009) - Senior Steve Tedesco (Mission Viejo, CA) was named to the All-Northeast Conference first team for the third-consecutive season when the 2009 NEC all-league accolades were handed out Monday afternoon. Tedesco was joined by fellow seniors Chansler Davis (Islip Terrace, NY) and Abel Malae (Pacifica, CA) on the All-NEC team, both earning second team honors.
For the second-straight season, Tedesco led the Northeast Conference in receiving, finishing with a league-high 67 receptions for 865 yards. His 11 receiving touchdowns moved him past former SHU running back Ed Priccolo (33) and into the top spot on the program's all-time touchdowns list (37). His single-game program-record 12 receptions, 144 yards, and four scores in SHU's season finale accounted for his 11th career 100-yard receiving day and cemented his place in the Northeast Conference record book. His 229 receptions rank second in the league's history and his 2,848 receiving yards are fourth-best.
Malae has been a mainstay on the Pioneer offensive line since transferring in prior to last season. The senior started all 10 games at left tackle this season, protecting quarterback Dale Fink's blind side. Sacred Heart led the NEC in passing offense in 2009, averaging 218.2 yards per game.
Davis started nine games this season at outside linebacker, piling up 42 total tackles, 23 solo, including five for losses. He closed the year with 2.5 quarterback sacks and had three pass break-ups.
For both Malae and Davis, it is their first career all-conference nods.
