FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 9, 2007) - Sacred Heart senior Jason Richardson (Malden, MA) and sophomore Steve Tedesco (Mission Viejo, CA) were named to the CoSIDA / ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Football Team. Both players make their first appearances on the team and will now be placed on the national ballot for the chance of being named an Academic All-American.
Richardson, a senior defensive tackle on the Pioneer defensive line, is a Business Management / Marketing major. Richardson is currently seventh on the team in total tackles with 39 stops on the year (15 solo/24 assists). He has six tackles for a loss on the year including two and a half sacks. He leads the team with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Tedesco, a sophomore wide receiver, is a History major. Tedesco is putting the final touches on a stellar sophomore season as the Northeast Conference's leading receiver. On the year, he has pulled down 56 passes, a new Sacred Heart school record, for 712 yards and 11 touchdowns. Tedesco has caught a touchdown in four-straight games, totaling eight scores over that stretch. He is averaging 12.4 yards per catch and 71.2 yards per game on the year.
The duo now moves on to the national balloting stage for Division I and I-AA players. The CoSIDA / ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team will be announced on November 28th.
The Pioneers close out their season Saturday afternoon at Robert Morris University. Kickoff is at 1:00 pm.
