FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 4, 2008) - Junior Evin Jones (Pennsauken, NJ) for the football team was named the Enterprise Rent-A-Car / Sacred Heart University Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 27th through November 2nd.

Jones rumbled his way to 170 yards and a touchdown to lead the Pioneers to their eighth win of 2008, 42-20, over Wagner College Friday night, live on MSG Plus. Jones carried the ball 29 times and averaged 5.9 yards per carry in the win as he became the sixth player in Sacred Heart history to reach the 1,000 yards rushing mark in a season. With SHU leading 35-20 late in the fourth quarter, Jones put his own stamp on the Pioneer win, carrying the football on every play of a nine-play drive that culminated with his team leading 12th rushing touchdown of the season from three yards out with 2:14 to play. The senior tailback also had two catches for eight yards on the night.

Jones will head into the final two games of his career with 1,102 yards rushing this season, the fourth highest single season rushing total in school history thus far. The Pioneers head to Monmouth this weekend in an NEC battle of a pair of 4-1 teams.
