FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 27, 2008) - Sacred Heart junior Brian Friedman (Point Pleasant, NJ) was named this week's Northeast Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week announced on Monday by the league office. Friedman was instrumental in the Pioneers overcoming a 17-0 deficit on their way to a 29-17 win at Duquesne on Saturday.
Friedman twice revived a late second-quarter scoring drive that trimmed Duquesne's once 17-point lead to two heading into halftime. With the Pioneers facing a fourth-and-two in punt formation, Friedman successfully executed a fake punt by taking the direct snap and rumbling eight yards for a first down. When the drive stalled at Duquesne's 13-yard line, Friedman turned what appeared to be a field goal attempt into a touchdown. Holder, and starting quarterback, Dale Fink faked the field goal and found the junior fullback wide open for the score. In addition to his eight-yard run and 13-yard touchdown catch out of kicking formations, Friedman made two tackles on special teams.
