Anthony Mortali Named NEC Speical Teams Player of the Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (September 22, 2008) - Sacred Heart senior Anthony Mortali (Branford, CT) was named this week's Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week announced by the leauge on Monday afternoon. Mortali joines his brother, sophomore Mike Mortali (Branford, CT), in earing an NEC award this season after he earned the Defensive Player honor two weeks ago.

Mortali helped Sacred Heart set the tone early in its 44-24 non-conference victory at Iona. Helping the Pioneers avenge last season's setback to Iona and move to 3-0 for the first time since 2002, the senior linebacker scooped up a blocked punt and carried it five yards into the end zone for the game's first points. Mortali, who made three tackles in the victory, was quick to pounce on the ball once teammate sophomore teammate Tony Patterson stuffed the kick.

The Pioneers are back on the road this Saturday when they travel to Marist College for a 1:00 pm kick-off.
