Sacred Heart redshirt-freshman Dale Fink (Swansea, IL) was named the Northeast Conference Football Rookie of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Fink wins the leagues opening weekend award after a stellar collegiate debut guiding the Pioneers to a 41-20 win at Assumption College Thursday night.
The rookie signal caller completed 16-of-25 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns in the win, tying the SHU school record for touchdown passes in a game (6th time / 4th player to do it). Facing third and 11 on the Pioneer's first scoring drive; Fink threw his first career touchdown, a 38-yard scoring strike to senior Joey Henley. He followed that three more scores to sophomore Steve Tedesco. He guided the Pioneers to touchdowns on their first three drives and four of their six in the first half, and their first two possessions of the second half. Fink also successfully directed a two-minute drill scoring drive to close the first half, taking the ball with 1:03 on the clock and guiding SHU 59 yards, capped by a 14-yard hook-up with Tedesco over the middle. The shifty QB also manage three scrambles for 11 yards while avoiding being sacked in the contest.
Fink and the Pioneers are home on Saturday afternoon to play host to the La Salle Explorers. Kick-off is at 1:00 pm.
