2007 Schedule

The 2007 Sacred Heart football season will kick-off on Thursday, August 30th when the Pioneers travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Assumption College. The season starts with four non-conference games before the six game Northeast Conference schedule gets underway.

This year the Pioneers renew a match-up from their Division II days when they take on the Assumption Greyhounds. The two teams met every season from 1991 through 2000 with the Pioneers holding a 6-3 edge in the all-time series. The last time the two schools met, SHU posted a 55-21 win at home.

The Pioneer home opener will take place on Saturday, September 8th when they host the La Salle Explorers on Campus Field at 1:00 pm. It will be the first ever meeting between both teams on the gridiron. SHU follows that with a trip down I-95 to New Rochelle, NY to take on the Iona Gaels, the 13th meeting in the series between the two schools. The series is tied at 6-6 but the Pioneers have won three-straight and six of the last seven meetings.

The Duquesne Dukes make a trip to Fairfield on Saturday, September 22nd to face the Pioneers for the final time as a non-conference opponent. The Dukes will become a full-time member of the Northeast Conference in 2008. The Sacred Heart versus Duquesne match-up will be the 2007 Homecoming Game. The Dukes are returning the home date to the Pioneers after posting a 24-21 win in Pittsburgh in 2006. The two schools met once before, during the 2001 season when Sacred Heart completed their undefeated season with a 31-15 win in the ECAC Bowl.

SHU will open the NEC portion of the schedule on September 29th with a trip to Staten Island to face the Wagner College Seahawks. The Pioneers own a 5-4 edge in the all-time series and is coming off a 25-17 win over the Seahawks last season at home. The defending NEC Champion Monmouth Hawks come to Campus Field to open the month of October. The Hawks and Pioneers will face-off on Saturday, October 6th.

A trip up to the capitol of New York on October 13th to face the Albany Great Danes highlights the schedule before a break in the Pioneer's calendar. SHU returns to play on October 27th to host St. Francis (PA) on "Senior Day". The Red Flash and Pioneers will be one of the highlights of Sacred Heart's annual Family Weekend. SHU is 7-4 against the Red Flash all-time.

The season closes with a pair of road games at Central Connecticut on November 3rd and Robert Morris on November 10th. The Pioneers are looking to snap a three-game slide against the Blue Devils when they up state for a match-up under the lights, game time is slated for 5 pm. The Colonials ended a five-game Pioneer winning streak in the series with a 41-21 win in last season's finale in Fairfield.
