Game #1 - Sacred Heart at Assumption - August 30, 2007 Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Paul Gorham
On his team's overall performance
"I thought getting ourselves in that position, having them go down the field and score on the opening drive, was exactly what we have been talking about, showing some resiliency. We came back, answered and let our defense settle in. They made the adjustments from there and took over the game."
"Dale, making his first start, we wanted to come out and get him that first completion. We came right out, first play and he was off and running from there."
"Dale does an exceptional job throwing the ball on the move, where he can just react."
On the team's success on third down and in the red zone "We did a great job finishing inside the red zone, not settling for field goals. We practice down there enough but I thought our kids did a great job getting off the ball."
Freshman QB Dale Fink
On the opening drive "I was definitely a little nervous but you know I just wanted to come out, make my reads and progressions. We ran an easy play (a roll out 8-yard completion to Tedesco) to open, I completed it and that kind of got me going."
On his mobility in the pocket and throwing on the move "I thought our line did a great job all night keeping their guys off me but when you get flushed out or on the move I just adapt. With our receivers, we have practiced so much we know each other now and can read those situations."
On his first game as the SHU signal caller "I had a good game but I definitely made some mistakes and have stuff to work on. But my teammates picked me up and it was a total-team effort win."
Sophomore Wide Receiver Steve Tedesco
On the win and his three-touchdown night "A total team win. I thought we ran the ball really well and Dale did a great job and made some great throws."
On his diving one-handed grab in the first quarter "I was on a comeback route but saw Dale sprinting out and made the adjustment. He made a great throw and I was able to make a play on it."
Freshman Linebacker Matt Dorosh
On responding to Assumption's opening scoring drive "After that first drive, we all realized we had a lot of work to do. I think we went back out there with a different kind of attitude, you know, kind of drew a line in the dirt and said we're not going to let them score again."
On stepping into the position vacated by linebackers Jon Corto and Rolando Garcia "That is kind of a goal I've set, to play at their level. To play hard, and I want to fill those shoes. That gives me the drive I need to get better and work harder."
