FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart football team hits the road one final time in the 2017 season Saturday when it takes on Saint Francis U at 12 p.m.
Last Time Out
SHU made a late fourth quarter rally at Bryant last week, but fell three points short in a 48-45 loss. Kevin Duke threw for a single-game school record 429 yards and three touchdowns. Andrew O'Neill had a career-high 11 receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Byron Barney tied a career-high with 10 receptions, and racked up 97 receiving yards. The two teams combined for 1,061 yards of total offense with SHU outgaining Bryant 556-505. The Pioneers trailed 48-30 early in the fourth quarter before a pair of Nate Chavious rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion cut the deficit to three.
- Freshman wide receiver Ezekiel Ennis was named NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time on Monday. Ennis had a season-high nine receptions and 94 receiving yards against Bryant last week.
- Senior quarterback Kevin Duke broke three SHU single-game passing records last week at Bryant. Duke was 39-for-62 passing for 429 yards.
- The Pioneers had a season-high 556 yards of total offense last week. It was the fifth highest total for SHU in a single game in program history.
- SHU is 2-1 in the state of Pennsylvania this season, winning at Lafayette and Robert Morris.
SHU vs. Saint Francis U
The Series: Sacred Heart and Saint Francis meet for the 22nd time on Saturday. The Red Flash have won the last five meetings to take an 11-10 lead in the series.
Last Meeting: Saint Francis U scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to break a 17-17 tie and defeat SHU 38-17 at Campus Field on Oct. 29, 2016. Red Flash quarterback Zack Drayer was 20-for-28 for 316 yards and four touchdowns. Kamron Lewis caught 10 passes for 184 yards and three scores. RJ Noel had 111 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Ose Imeokparia rushed for 62 yards in the game. CJ Parvelus led all players with a then-career high 15 tackles. Tim Johnson had an interception that set up a field goal to tie the game 17-17 in the third quarter.
Scouting the Red Flash: The defending NEC champions are 3-2 in the NEC, and 5-4 overall, after a 28-10 loss at Central Connecticut last week. Saint Francis U was held to 123 yards of total offense by the Blue Devils and lost three fumbles. The Red Flash is fourth in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 14.6 points per game. Saint Francis U leads the NEC in scoring, passing, and rushing defense.
