J.D. Roussel Named to AP All-American Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn – Senior defensive back J.D. Roussel (Pawtucket, RI) was named an Associated Press third team All-American as announced Friday afternoon. Roussel joins juniors Troy Moore (Worcester, MA) and Keshaudas Spence (Dorchester, MA) who were named All-Americans by The Sports Network last week. Since 2001, Sacred Heart has earned 14 All-America honors.

Roussel broke the Sacred Heart all-time interceptions record this season with 7 takeaways through the air. The ball-hawk hauled in three of those interceptions in a 16-0 win at Bucknell on September 28th, once again tying a school record. For his efforts in the Pioneers' first shutout since 2002, Roussel was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Roussel and the Pioneer football team won the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship and earned the program's first ever berth into the FCS Playoffs.
