FAIRFIELD, Conn – Junior safety Gordon Hill (Sicklerville, NJ) has been named College Football Performance National Kick Returner of the Week. On Saturday, Hill and the Pioneers defeated the Robert Morris Colonials 42-25 to win the 2013 NEC Championship and a berth into the FCS Playoffs.
Normally known for his tremendous tackling ability, Hill showed great hands in recovering two Robert Morris onside kick attempts late in the fourth quarter Saturday, returning one 44 yards for a touchdown. Hill's TD return put an exclamation point on a Sacred Heart wire-to-wire victory in Moon Township, Pa. On defense, Hill racked up nine tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and 1.5 tackles for loss. His strip sack of RMU quarterback Paul Jones in the second quarter led to a R.J Noel (Lowell, MA) 19-yard touchdown pass to Moses Webb (Manassas, VA) to give SHU a 14-0 lead.
Sacred Heart will find out its first round FCS playoff opponent on Sunday, November 24th. There will be a selection show aired on ESPNU at 11:30 am to announce the 24 teams in this season's tournament.
