FAIRFIELD, Conn – Redshirt Sophomore R.J. Noel (Lowell, MA) has been named this week's Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. It is Noel's fifth rookie of the week honor this season and the Pioneers' 13th NEC award of the year.
The rookie signal caller accounted for 226 total yards and a couple scores, in the Pioneers 24-21 win over the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Noel scored the Pioneers first two touchdowns, running for a six yarder and then tossing a four yard TD pass to fullback Pat Casey. Noel has thrown a league leading 20 touchdowns this season, including throwing at least one in each game this season. For the season, Noel has completed 146 of 275 passes for 1,772 yards and also has rushed for 503 yards. He has also been named to the Jerry Rice Watch List, for the best first year player in all of the Football Championship Subdivision.
Noel and the Pioneers host first place Duquesne this weekend on Campus Field at noon.
