FAIRFIELD, Conn – Junior defensive lineman Troy Moore (Worcester, MA) has been named The Sport's Network's National Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Moore becomes the third Pioneer to win the award this season, joining the ranks of sophomore quarterback R.J Noel (Lowell, MA) and junior defensive back J.D Roussel (Pawtucket, RI).
Moore put together an absolute dominant performance up front for the Pioneers in their 56-28 victory over the Bryant Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The preseason All-Conference nominee notched three sacks, six tackles for loss and forced a fumble to help the Pioneers to their first ever win in Smithfield.The Pioneer defense allowed just four net rushing yards for the Bulldogs. With the Pioneers up 21-0 on the second quarter, Moore ripped the ball out of Bryant running back Michael Perry's hands, creating the Pioneers second fumble recovery of the afternoon. For the season, Moore has seven sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, both career highs.
The Pioneers look for three wins in a row this coming weekend whenh they travel to take on the Red Flash of Saint Franci University.
