FAIRFIELD, Conn. –Sophomore quarterback R.J. Noel (Lowell, MA) has been named The Sports Network's National Freshman Player of the Week. Noel joins junior defensive back Stephan Thomas (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) (Defensive Player of the Week) as two Pioneers who have been honored by The Sports Network so far this season.
Noel tossed for a career-high 297 yards and a career high four touchdowns in the Pioneers' 58-36 win over CCSU on Saturday afternoon. Noel tossed two of those touchdowns to junior wide out Tyler Dube (Southington, CT), including a 72-yard completion, the longest Pioneer touchdown this season. Noel's 68.0-completion percentage is the sophomore signal caller's highest of the season. On the season, Noel has completed 100 of 173 passes for 1,302 yards and 14 touchdowns. Noel's 7:1 touchdown to interception ratio is tops in the Northeast Conference.
Noel and the rest of the Pioneers travel to take on the Bryant Bulldogs this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
