Cambridge, MA - Sacred Heart sophomore quarterback R.J. Noel (Lowell, MA) has been selected as the first recipient of the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award for the 2013 college football season.
In his first career collegiate start, Noel amassed over 300 yards of total offense to lead Sacred Heart to a 37-21 win over the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday night. The rookie signal caller completed 21 of 34 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown. Noel connected on a beautiful 46-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide-out Tyler Dube (Southington, CT) to put SHU up 30-7. On the ground, Noel carried the ball 17 times for 104 yards, including a nine-yard scamper to cap Sacred Heart's scoring early in the fourth quarter.
Noel and the SHU football squad look to go 2-0 when they travel to take on the Lafayette Leopards Saturday night at 6:00 pm.
