CAMBRIDGE, MA - Junior foilist Dan Convery-Zupan and Freshman epeeist Justin Dion competed in the regional round of the NCAA Fencing Championships last Sunday. Despite spirited efforts, neither fencer advanced from the preliminary round of the competition.

"Unfortunately, it just wasn't Dan or Justin's day on Sunday," said head coach Dr. Tom Vrabel. "This is a highly-competitive event and you have to start quickly to get momentum going. This just didn't happen for them today."

Despite this less than desired result, both fencers had stellar seasons for the Pioneers. Dion was a first team All Northeast Fencing Conference selection with a 24-4 record in league play. Convery-Zupan returned to competition in the spring semester and had a 10-3 record in league competition and an over 65% win record in all NCAA competition this season.

"Dan returned to the team this spring and really solidified our foil squad," said Vrabel. "I look for him to have a strong senior season. Justin was the surprise of the program this year. He quickly established himself as a formidable competitor and had one of the best seasons for any freshman in the history of the team, Justin is a very hard worker and has not come close to achieving his potential yet. I am very excited about having him on the epee squad for the next three years."
