PHILADELPHIA, PA - An undermanned SHU squad battled hard but lost to UNC 17-10, John's Hopkins 17-10 and Duke 21-6 in action at Temple on Sunday. The team was led by junior foilist Dan Convery-Zupan, freshman epeeist Nate Quigley, and sophomore epeeist Kyle Dee, who all posted 4-5 marks.

"The team fought hard but really missed Sean McGeveran, Chris Fabio, and Nick Bentley on Sunday," commented head coach Dr. Tom Vrabel. "I was very pleased at the progress made by many of the fencers, including Nate Quigley, foilist Jim Roberts and saberist Jay Manzella. Even though Jay and Jim did not post many wins, they were very competitive against strong competition and they are getting very close to having break out performances. Hopefully, this will come for us at Boston College. We should be back at full strength by then."

The Pioneers begin NEIFC league play on January 26 with a multi meet at Boston College against 6 teams, including BC, MIT, Brandeis and Brown.
