Sacred Heart Falls To Yale 17-10

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart men's fencing team travelled on Saturday to take on the Yale Bulldogs.  Despite a strong performance by the epee squad, Yale dominated foil and saber early and the meet was decided with six bouts remaining in the contest.

The Pioneers were led on the day by the junior quartet of Jonathan Jacovino and Khristopher White in epee, Andrew Holmes in foil and Tommy Gerrity in saber, who all were 2-1 on the day.

"This was a tough one for us today", head coach Dr. Tom Vrabel commented.  "Our five junior starters (Jacovino, White, Gerrity, Holmes and Devon Clark) were 9-5 in this meet but the rest of the team was only 1-11.  We just do not have the depth to compete with a solid team like Yale at this time. Our having to start four underclassmen showed itself today.  I know that we will work extra hard to get ready for the Philly Invitational on Saturday".

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, January 25 at the University of Pennsylvania in the Philadelphia Invitational.  Action begins at 9 AM.
