Stuart Holmes Named 2013 ECAC Medal of Merit Recipient at Senior and Scholar Athlete Awards Gala
Senior team captain Stuart Holmes was named the ECAC Medal of Merit Recipient for Men’s Athletics at the 2013 Pioneer All Sports Banquet last Sunday. In addition to this prestigious honor, Holmes was named to the Men’s All-Pioneer Team, was a recipient of the Dr. Gary Rose ECAC Scholar Athlete Award and became a member of the C. Donald Cook Scholar Athlete Society.

Stuart Holmes Named NFC Men’s Fencer of the Year
Team Captain Stuart Holmes’ perfect 28-0 record in foil competition this past season has earned him the honor of being named the Northeast Fencing Conference Men’s Fencer of the Year. He is one of six Sacred Heart men’s fencers to earn All-NFC honors.

Pioneer Fencing Alumnus Marty Williams Places Ninth at US National Championship
Two Sacred Heart men’s fencing alumni and a current team member competed last week at the United States Fencing Association Division I National Championships that were held in Richmond, Virginia. These events are restricted to only those fencers that currently are on the National Points list for Division I.

Stuart and Andrew Holmes Qualify for NCAA Championships at NCAA Northeast Regional
The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team traveled to St. John’s University in New York City for the NCAA Northeast Regional Fencing Championships on Sunday. The brother foil duo of senior team captain Stuart Holmes and sophomore Andrew Holmes placed eight and tenth respectively in the competition.

Men’s Fencing’s 5-0 Day Leads To Northeast Fencing Conference Title
The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team clinched its fourth consecutive Northeast Fencing Conference Championship on Saturday, going 5-0 on the day. Senior team captain Stuart Holmes was named the NFC Fencer of the Year after finishing the NFC season 28-0.

Six Pioneers Earn Second Team All-American Honors at Ohio State
The third annual National Collegiate Squad Championships were held on Sunday at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The SHU foil and epee squads placed second in both competitions to earn Second Team All-American status for the squads.

In a split squad weekend a portion of the Sacred Heart men’s fencing team went to participate at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Tournament which was held at Brandeis University.

Andrew Holmes Leads Men’s Fencing to Second Win Over Yale This Season
The 11th-ranked Sacred Heart men’s fencing team traveled to Vassar College on Saturday to face Drew, Yale, and Hunter College. SHU had a perfect day, defeating Yale 14-13, Drew 23-4 and Hunter 24-3.

(Fairfield, CT) - The Sacred Heart Men’s Fencing team was honored for its third consecutive Northeast Conference Fencing Championship with a ring presentation ceremony during halftime of the SHU Men’s Basketball game against Holy Cross on December 5.

Epee Squad Stars During Tough Day at Tradition Tournament
(Poughkeepsie, NY) - The Sacred Heart Men’s Fencing Team lost two heart breaking matches by 14-13 scores to improved UNC Chapel Hill and NYU squads at the Tradition Tournament on Saturday. The team also was defeated by Harvard 23-4, Princeton21-6, Penn State 20-7, and UPenn 19-8. The highlight of the day was the strong effort of the epee squad, who defeated the epee squads of Penn State 6-3, UPenn 5-4, UNC 6-3 and NYU 5-4.

Pioneer Men Go 5-0 at In NFC Meet #1; Holmes Brothers lead team with a combined 30-0 record
The Sacred Heart University Men’s Fencing Team once again took the first critical step on their quest for fourth consecutive Northeast Fencing Conference Championship as they went a perfect 5-0 at the NFC meet at MIT on Saturday. They defeated Bostun University 26-1, Brown University 14-13, University of New Hampshire 27-0, MIT 15-12 and Brandeis University 16-11. This makes the fourth consecutive year that the Pioneers have defeated the Brown Bruins by a 14-13 score.

Men's Fencing Goes 4-0 at SHU Invitational
The Pitt Center was taken over by twenty fencing strips on Sunday as the Pioneers hosted the 2012 SHU Invitational. The team was a perfect 4-0 with strong wins over Haverford (19-8), Vassar (21-6), Stevens Tech (22-5), and Yeshiva (25-2). The Pioneers won 81 % of their bouts on the day.

Stuart Holmes Wins Big One Foil Championship; Men Win Seven Medals in Event
(Northhampton, MA) - Senior Team Captain Stuart Holmes continued the tradition of the Pioneers winning at least one championship at the Big One with his dominating championship win in foil at Smith College in the traditional kick-off of the collegiate fencing season in the Northeast. The Pioneers garnered seven medals in total in the competition.
