FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart University basketball coach Dave Bike has announced the signing of Mehmet Sahan from Istanbul, Turkey and the Tilton School in New Hampshire to a National Letter of Intent for the 2007-08 season.
Mehmet will graduate from the Tilton School this spring, which was one of the top Class B prep school teams in New England this past season.
The 6'9" 245 pound forward is widely considered one of the top 50 seniors in the New England prep school ranks, which is the most competitive prep school basketball in the country.
He was also rated as one of the top forward prospects in Class B. Mehmet averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists this past season for Tilton. He also starred on the under-19 Turkish National Team that reached the semifinals of the 2007 European Championships.
He joins guard Jerrell Thompson of Plainfield High School in New Jersey as freshmen on next season's squad. They will both be joined by transfer Corey Hassan, who sat out last season after coming to the Pioneers from Boston University.
