Men's Basketball Takes on First-Place Robert Morris Tonight!

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - Setting The Scene: The Sacred Heart men's basketball team begins a two-game swing to Western Pennsylvania on Thursday when it takes on Robert Morris University at 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers are currently 6-8 in the Northeast Conference and need to finish the season strong if they are to have a chance to make the NEC Tournament.
Series: This is the 19th meeting between the two schools and Robert Morris holds an 11-7 lead. The Colonials won both meetings last season.
Scouting the Opponent: The Colonials sit in first place in the Northeast Conference with a 13-1 mark. They are 18-9 overall and have won nine of the last ten games. Freshman guard Karon Abraham leads the team in scoring at 12.9 per game and has buried a team-high 50 three's at a 44 percent clip. Senior forward Rob Robinson leads the team in rebounding at 5.3 per game, while scoring an average of 9.5 per contest.
Upcoming Games: The Pioneers play at Saint Francis on Saturday and then return home to host Fairleigh Dickinson on Senior Day on Thursday.
This Date in SHU Basketball History: On February 18, 1989 the Pioneers defeated New Hampshire College 75-61 in Manchester. Tony Judkins led the Pioneers with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Todd Williams also finished in double figures with 14 points, while Sean Williams had 13 and five assists.
SHU would finish the season with a 22-10, reaching the NCAA Division II quarterfinals before losing to North Carolina Central, 58-57, in Springfield, MA.
Playoff Picture: The Pioneers currently sit in 10th place in the NEC standings tied with Central Connecticut. However, SHU is just a game out of sixth behind Monmouth, Saint Francis, and Saint Francis (PA).
M*A*S*H Unit: Sophomore Stan Dulaire suffered an ankle injury in the win over SFNY on 2/13 and will likely be out for the rest of the regular season.
Chairman of the Boards: Senior Liam Potter set a new Pioneer Division I high when he ripped down 17 rebounds against LIU on February 11. It broke the previous mark set by Kibwe Trim when he 16 against Mount St. Mary's on February 9, 2006. The overall school record is 29 by Ed Czernota against Tufts on February 7, 1972.
