Pioneers Fall at Columbia, 76-71

NEW YORK, NY - Nick Scott and John Baumann scored 16 points apiece, while Scott converted four of his five three attempts, to lead Columbia University to a 76-71 win over visiting Sacred Heart University Saturday afternoon.
Sacred Heart, 2-5, had a couple of chance to tie the score in the final minute. Trailing 74-71 with :23 left, Jarrid Frye was called for an offensive foul for the Pioneers while driving to the basket for a turnover.
After a Pioneer foul sent Patrick Foley to the free throw line with :18 left, Foley missed the front of a one-and-one. Joey Henley got the rebound for the Pioneers and handed it off to Chauncey Hardy who raced up court. Ryan Litke drove right across the lane and lost the ball of his foot and it was picked up by Brett Loscalzo to foil the Pioneers once again.
Sacred Heart led the game 35-34 at the intermission, despite trailing early 12-5. A 16-2 run by the Pioneers gave them a 21-14 lead that propelled them to the halftime lead.
Chauncey Hardy led the Pioneer attack with a career-high 19 points, including four of five from three-point range. He also had four assists. Frye and Henley also both had double figures with 12 points each.
The Pioneers will be in action again on Monday night at home against Yale University at 7:00 p.m.
