SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Jamaal Wise scored a game-high 13 points and blocked a shot late in the game to help Rhode Island hold off Sacred Heart 56-50 on Saturday.

Sacred Heart (0-1) shot just 18 percent in the first half and trailed 28-19 at halftime, but stayed close and was within four points in the final minute.

Jarrid Frye and Kibwe Trim each scored 12 to lead Sacred Heart and Drew Shubik chipped in with 10.

Frye's steal and dunk pulled Sacred Heart within 48-44 with 1:42 to play. He scored again after an offensive rebound to make it 52-48 with 22 seconds to play.

But Wise, who missed last season as a medical redshirt, blocked Tavio Hobson's shot with 15 seconds to play.

Tyrese Sullivan went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 37 seconds to help keep Rhode Island (1-0) in front.

Jimmy Baron had nine points for Rhode Island. He scored on a drive and followed it with a long 3-pointer with 1:16 to play in the first half to give the Rams a 28-16 lead, the largest of the game for either team. Sacred Heart led 12-11 after a pair of Luke Granato free throws, but Parfait Bitee hit a short jumper with 9:54 to play, putting Rhode Island ahead to stay.
