Final Stats

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Senior Brian Glowiak (New Britain, CT) led four University of Hartford players in double figures and canned three three-pointers in the second half to spark the Hawks to a 70-55 win over Sacred Heart University in a non-conference game Wednesday night.

Sacred Heart, 0-3, jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after a Drew Shubik (Stoystown, PA) three and a dunk by sophomore Chauncey Hardy (Middletown, CT). Hartford then started to pound the ball inside to junior Warren McLendon to take an 8-7 lead. After the third basket by the Hartford big man, SHU coach Dave Bike went to 7-foot Liam Potter off the bench. Potter played solid defense and forced McLendon into his second foul, sending him to the bench for the remainder of the half with 9:34 left.

In the meantime, the Pioneers used a pair of threes by senior Luke Granato (Rocky Hill, CT) to take a 17-14 lead with 9:17 left. A Morgan Sabia three tied the game for Hartford with 8:25 to go. A trey by Corey Hassan (Merrimack, NH) and a layup by Chauncey Hardy (Middletown, CT) with 3:28 left gave the Pioneers a 26-21 advantage. The Hawks took advantage of five SHU turnovers in the final three minutes to make a 9-1 run and take a 30-27 lead into the locker room at the half.

Hassan came out firing in the second half and scored eight points in a row to help SHU retake the lead, 37-36, with 17:24 left to play in the game. Hartford retook the lead on a Joe Zeglinski jumper with 14:55 left and the Hawks would never trail again.

The Pioneers ended up shooting just 26 percent in the second half (9-34) and 30 percent for the game (19-62). Hassan ended up leading the Pioneers in scoring with 14 points, while Hardy finished with ten. Brice Brooks finished with ten rebounds for Sacred Heart.
