MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - Senior forward Chaz McCrommon scored a game-high 23 points, including a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line to lead Robert Morris University to a 77-74 win over visiting Sacred Heart University in a Northeast Conference men's basketball game Saturday night.

Robert Morris, 13-14 overall and 10-7 in the NEC, jumped out to a quick 7-5 lead on the Pioneers, helped by a three-pointer by senior guard Maurice Carter. The trey snapped an 0-15 streak Carter had suffered from beyond the arc. Sacred Heart then went on a 14-0 run to take 1 19-7 lead with 10:45 to play in the first half. Junior guard Mike Parker and sophomore forward Joey Henley both had a pair of layups for the Pioneers during the run.

The Colonials started chipping away at the Pioneer lead and threes by Derek Coleman and Beau Gibb brought them within three at 24-21 with 6:55 to go. Gibb cut the SHU lead to one with a second chance bucket with 6:22 left, and senior Chaz McCrommon put Robert Morris ahead 26-24 with a three with 5:55 to play.

The Pioneers recovered and a layup by Jarrid Frye and a dunk by junior Kibwe Trim put SHU back in the lead 28-26. The two teams jockeyed back and forth and Luke Granato canned a three for the Pioneers with 2:00 left in the half to put his club ahead 35-33. It was the first appearance for Granto since suffering a broken foot on January 2.

Carter tied the game at 37-37 for the Colonials with a laup with 1:04 left in the half, but freshman Ryon Howard sent the Pioneers to the locker room with a 40-37 lead with a three-pointer with :50 to go. Sacred Heart was four of five from three in the half.

Tony Lee banged home a three on the opening Colonial possession of the second half to tie the score. Another Granato three and a Parker layup off a Drew Shubik steal helped the Pioneers build a 60-55 lead with 11:38 to play. Granato canned another three with 8:30 left that put the Pioneers up 65-59.

Again the Colonials hung in there and a steal and dunk by McCrommon with 4:24 to play gave Robert Morris a 70-68 lead. On the next SHU possession, McCrommon blocked a shot by Henley. McCrommon was fouled at the other end and hit both free throws to give the Colonials a 72-68 lead with 3:45 remaining.

The Pioneers took their final lead of the game at 73-72 when Shubik drained another three with 2:43 remaining in the game. A second-chance basket by Lee with 2:22 left put the Colonials back up one. Frye tied the game at 74-74 with 1:55 remaining when he hit one of two free throws.

A Gooden layup with 1:35 left put Robert Morris ahead 76-74. Kibwe Trim turned it over on the next SHU trip, but Coleman missed a three with :35 left to give the Pioneers another possession. Shubik missed a driving layup with :13 left. Lee grabbed the rebound for Robert Morris and was fouled. He hit one of his two free throws to give the Colonials a three-point lead. One last gasp for Sacred Heart came on a last-second three by Granato who was double-teamed. The shot missed off the front of the rim and the Colonials grabbed the rebound as the horn sounded.

Trim led the Pioneers with 21 points and nine rebounds. Henley and Shubik finished with 12 points apiece, while Parker added 11.
