Assistant Johnny Kidd is in his 16th season as a member of the Sacred Heart men's basketball coaching staff. Kidd's first season with the Pioneers was SHU's first in the Northeast Conference and on the Division I level in 1999-00.
Coach Kidd is a 22-year veteran of the college coaching ranks. He has helped build a recruiting base that has produced eight Pioneers who have garnerned All-Northeast Conference honors (Maurice Bailey - 2002, 2004, Joey Henley - 2005, 2009, Kibwe Trim - 2006, Jarrid Frye - 2006, 2007, Drew Shubik - 2008, Corey Hassan - 2010, Shane Gibson - 2011, 2012, 2013). Kidd is heavily involved with implementing defensive strategies and guard skills for the Pioneers.
Prior to coming to Sacred Heart, Kidd spent four years at Western Connecticut State. He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach on the Central Connecticut State University staff.
Kidd was a four-year starter and two-time captain for the Blue Devils. A point guard during his heyday, he holds the Central Connecticut career assist record with 567. He reach his single-game peak with 16 assists against Sacred Heart, sparking CCSU to a 90-72 win over the Pioneers during the 1982-83 season.
Kidd is a 1993 graduate of Central Connecticut. He resides in Bridgeport, CT.
