Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart wraps up its west coast trip with its final two games of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. The Pioneers take on Northern Colorado on Thanksgiving before a matchup with either Norfolk State or Bucknell on Friday.
Last Time Out... SHU fell victim to Santa Clara's 12 three-pointers Monday night, falling 84-74 to the Broncos at Leavey Center. The Pioneers trailed by three, 41-38, at halftime and by as much as five twice in the second half but could not overcome 18 turnovers. Quincy McKnight led SHU with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. The frontcourt duo of Joseph Lopez and De'von Barnett combined for 25 points and 18 rebounds. The Pioneers outrebounded Santa Clara 41-24, but shot only 23.1% from the three-point arc.
All-Time vs. The Field... The only team in the Las Vegas field SHU has faced is Norfolk State. The Pioneers defeated the Spartans in their only meeting 84-74 in the 1986 NCAA Division II Elite Eight, on their way to the national title. Thursday marks SHU's first-ever game against Northern Colorado.
Scouting the Bears... Northern Colorado enters Thursday's game 1-3 after a 71-55 loss at Arizona Monday night. The Bears led the Wildcats 31-30 at halftime, but were held to 9-of-24 shooting in the second half. Arizona shot 52% from the field in the second to pull away. Jordan Davis led the Bears with 20 points and five assists Monday. Chaz Glotta made five three-pointers for 15 points. Davis leads the Bears in scoring and assists with 22.8 points and 5.8 assists per game. Glotta is a 48.3% three-point shooter and averages 14.3 points per game. Northern Colorado was picked to finish 10th in the Big Sky Media Poll and 11th in the Coaches Poll.
Look Who's Back... Forward De'von Barnett had 10 points and nine rebounds Monday night at Santa Clara. In his first two seasons, Barnett averaged 10.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. As a freshman in 2013, Barnett was an NEC All-Rookie Team selection after averaging 11 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He shot 57.1% from the field as a sophomore in 31 games, second-best in the NEC.
SHU Cleaning Up On The Glass... Sacred Heart outrebounded Santa Clara by 17, 41-24, on Monday night. It was the third time in four games that SHU outrebounded its opponent. The Pioneers' +4.0 rebound margin is fourth in the NEC.
