FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sophomore guard Quincy McKnight was named the Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 25 points per game against Hofstra and Arizona.
McKnight scored over 20 points in both of SHU's games this week, as the Pioneers went 1-1 against Hofstra and #9/10 Arizona. On Tuesday night, McKnight scored a career-high 28 points as the Pioneers overcame a nine-point deficit in the final four minutes to beat Hofstra 90-86. The sophomore was 11-for-20 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line.
He then scored 22 points at Arizona Friday night, scoring 20 in the second half alone after being in foul trouble early in the first half. For the week. McKnight averaged 25 points and four boards per game, shooting 57.6% from the floor and going 11-for-11 at the free throw line. This is McKnight's first career Player of the Week award. He was named Rookie of the Week five times last season.
