Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart Pioneers play host to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in the second of back-to-back home games to start the Northeast Conference season. Sacred Heart fell to 9-6 in NEC openers with a 79-70 loss to Robert Morris Thursday night at the Pitt Center. FDU won its first conference game Thursday night, a 85-79 home victory over Mount St. Mary's. Sacred Heart is 0-4 at home for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers fell to 0-4 at home this season with a 79-70 loss to Robert Morris to open up NEC play. Robert Morris senior guard Karvel Anderson scored a career-best 36 points on 15-of-19 shooting. Senior forward Mostafa Abdel Latif scored a career-high 17 points on 8-of-8 shooting for the Pioneers. He also pulled down 12 rebounds to record his second double double of the season. Freshman De'Von Barnett scored 12 points after being put in the starting lineup for the first time this season, while Louis Montes chipped in with 11 points. Junior point guard Phil Gaetano dished out seven assists with nine points.
SHU vs Fairleigh Dickinson Series Notes... Today is the 23rd meeting between SHU and FDU and will be the first of two match-ups this season.
- The Pioneers hold a slim 12-10 edge in the all-time series.
- SHU won the only meeting last season, a 77-70 win at the Pitt.

Fairleigh Dickinson finished last in the Northeast Conference in 2012-13 with a conference record of 2-16. FDU lost 15 consecutive games to finish the season.

Montes 1,000.... Senior Louis Montes scored his 1,000th career points on December 18th in a Pioneers' 70-61 loss at Santa Clara. The senior forward now has 1,060 career points in 104 career games. Montes becomes the 37th Pioneer to eclipse 1,000 points in a career and the 190th player in Northeast Conference history. Montes also has 547 career rebounds.
Perfect Mostafa... Senior forward Mostafa Abdel Latif finished a perfect 8-for-8 from the field Thursday night against Robert Morris on his way to a career high 17 points. Abdel-Latif is the first Pioneer to be perfect from the field with at least six field goal attempts in a game since Joey Henley (9-9) did it in 2009.
Free Throw Woes... The Pioneers currently rank second to last in the NEC with a free throw percentage of 68.2. In Sacred Heart's three wins, they are shooting a dismal 60.8% (45-of-74) from the charity stripe. In the win against UNH on Saturday, the Pioneers went 13-of-23 from the line.
Off the Bench... Sacred Heart received 37 points off the bench in its win over UNH, with Steve Glowiak and De'Von Barnett combining for 32 of those. The 37 points accounted for 54.1% of the Pioneers' total, which is the highest all season. Sacred Heart's starting five scored a season-low 29 points. With Barnett inserted the starting lineup, the SHU bench mustered only 12 points in the loss to Robert Morris.
Let do this again, sometime.... Sacred Heart snapped a six-game losing streak Saturday afternoon with a 66-53 win over New Hampshire. It had been exactly one month between victories for the Pioneers.
One Man Show... Robert Morris guard Karvel Anderson scored a career-high 36 points against Sacred Heart on Thursday night on 15-of-19 shooting. It is the fourth time this season the Pioneers have allowed a player to score 30+ points against them. Holy Cross' Cullen Hamilton (35), Santa Clara's Brandon Clark (30), and Radford's R.J. Price (30) all accomplished the feat.
Up Next... Sacred Heart hits the road to play the Bryant Bulldogs on January 16th at the Chace Athletic Center in Providence. The Pioneers are 16-10 all-time against the Bulldogs.
