Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart Pioneers host the Robert Morris Colonials Thursday night to begin their 15th season in the Northeast Conference. The Pioneers are riding high after snapping a six-game losing streak by defeating New Hampshire 66-53 Saturday afternoon. On the other side, the Colonials have dropped three in a row and eight of their last ten games. Most recently, Robert Morris dropped back-to-back games to national powers, Alabama and Oklahoma State. Sacred Heart is 9-5 all-time in Northeast Conference openers.  

Last Time Out... The Pioneers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 66-53 win over the New Hampshire Wildcats Saturday afternoon in Durham, New Hampshire. Sacred Heart used a 20-1 second half run to pull away from UNH for its third road victory of the season. Steve Glowiak led the way with 17 points for SHU, while freshman De'Von Barnett scored a career-high 15 points. The 53 points is the lowest the Pioneers have given up all season. SHU is 3-0 all-time against the Wildcats.

SHU vs Robert Morris Series Notes... Today marks the 25th meeting between the Pioneers and Colonials.

- Robert Morris leads the all-time series, 16-8.

- The Colonials have won four-straight and eight of the last nine meetings with the Pioneers.

- Last season, the Pioneers lost two close games to Robert Morris, dropping both contests by an average of 4.5 points. At the Pitt Center, Robert Morris defeated SHU, 68-63, behind 13 points by Karvel Anderson.

- The Pioneers are 2-10 in Moon Township but 6-6 at home vs. the Colonials.

Pioneers in the NEC...  Sacred Heart is in its 15th season of play in the Northeast
Conference in 2013-14.  
- SHU is 105-152 in conference play since joining the league in 1999-2000.  
- The Pioneers best finish in the league was second, a feat they accomplished twice, in 2006-07 and 2008-09.
- SHU has qualified for the Northeast Conference Tournament six times, reaching the championship game twice.

Last season in the NEC... Sacred Heart finished ninth in the NEC last season, narrowily missing the Conference Tournament with an NEC record of 7-11. Robert Morris finished third in the NEC regular season with a conference record of 13-5. The Colonials received a berth into the NIT, where they defeated national powerhouse Kentucky in the first round.

Barnett Burstin' Thru... Freshman De'Von Barnett earned his second Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honor this week after pouring in a career-high 15 points in the Pioneers' 66-53 win over UNH on Saturday. Barnett also had 14 points in the Pioneers' 75-70 setback against Florida A&M on December 23rd. Since returning from injury, Barnett is averaging 10.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game (Seven games).

Montes 1,000.... Senior Louis Montes scored his 1,000th career points on December 18th in a Pioneers' 70-61 loss at Santa Clara. The senior forward now has 1,049 career points in 104 career games. Montes becomes the 37th Pioneer to eclipse 1,000 points in a career and the 190th player in Northeast Conference history. Montes also has 544 career rebounds.

Time to Step up...With the Pioneers' leading-scorer Evan Kelley currently on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, Sacred Heart will have to replace a team-high 14.1 points per game. Kelley has scored in double digits ten times this season and has led the Pioneers in scoring five times.

Free Throw Woes... The Pioneers currently rank second to last in the NEC with a free throw percentage of 67.8. In Sacred Heart's three wins, they are shooting a dismal 60.8% (45-of-74) from the charity stripe. In the win against UNH on Saturday, the Pioneers went 13-of-23 from the line.

Off the Bench... Sacred Heart received 37 points off the bench on Saturday against UNH, with Steve Glowiak and De'Von Barnett combining for 32 of those. The 37 points accounted for 54.1% of the Pioneers' total, which is the highest all season. Sacred Heart's starting five scored a season-low 29 points.

Let do this again, sometime.... Sacred Heart snapped a six-game losing streak Saturday afternoon with a 66-53 win over New Hampshire. It had been exactly one month between victories for the Pioneers.

West Coast Not the Best Coast... In the the Pioneers' 0-for-4 west coast trip as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, they shot a dismal 39.2 % from the floor, including 29.9 percent from beyond the three-point line. Averaging just over 70 points per game (70.25) in the four games, Sacred Heart was beaten by an average of 15.5 points per game.

Up Next... Sacred Heart will again be at home on Saturday, as the FDU Knights come to town for a 2:00 tip in the Pitt Center. SHU is 12-10 all-time against Fairleigh Dickinson.
