FAIRFIELD, CT - Baseball seniors Jared Balbach (Pine Bush, NY) and Jeff Heppner (Aqubogue, NY) have been named captains of the baseball team by head coach Nick Giaquinto today. The Pioneer tandem helped the team to a 29-27 record last season and a trip to the Northeast Conference championship game.

Balbach, the team pitching ace, finished the year with an 8-2 record on the mound and a 4.32 ERA. He whiffed 55 batters in 83 innings and had three complete games.

Heppner, who will again start behind the plate for the Pioneers, set a school record last year with 63 RBI, while hitting a hefty .351. He also hit a team-high 13 homers, ripping 17 doubles and a pair of triples.

The 2010 season starts February 26 with a four-game series at Florida Gulf Coast.
