Hanson and Heppner Play in NEIBA All-Star Game
June 5, 2009
FAIRFIELD, CT - Senior first baseman Jeff Hanson and junior catcher Jeff Heppner competed in the 35th New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Classic last night at Campanalli Stadium in Brockton, MA. The University (Division I) All-Stars broke the game open late, defeating the College (Division II and III) Division 11-0.
Hanson, who hit a team-high .425 this past season, ripped a double down the left field line off Tim Therrian of the University of Southern Maine in his first at bat in the third inning. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a double play grounder by Heppner that gave the University team a 1-0 lead.
Hanson was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. He injured his ankle on an aborted slide into second base on a hit-and-run play and had to leave the game.
Heppner, who was 0-2 at the plate, caught the first five innings of the game.
