June 3, 2009

FAIRFIELD, CT - Senior first baseman Jeff Hanson and junior catcher Jeff Heppner have both been selected to play in the 35th Annual New England College Baseball All-Star Game, scheduled for Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA.

The pair will represent the University Division in the classic against the College Division, players comprised from New England Division II and III schools. The University team leads the series 21-11-1, though the College Team has won the last two games.

Hanson closed his career this past season as one of the most feared sluggers in Pioneer history. He hit a Northeast Conference leading .425 this year with 12 homers and 54 runs batted in. He is SHU's all-time leader in RBI with 144. He became just the third player in school history to amass 200 hits and is also the career leader in doubles. He was named All-Northeast Conference for the third time at the end of the season.

Heppner set a single-season SHU record with 63 RBI in 2009, a mark that also led the Northeast Conference. He hit a hefty .353 and led the Pioneers with 13 homers, while finishing third on the team with 17 doubles.

Sacred Heart had its best Division I season in ten years in 2009, finishing over .500 for the first time at 29-27-1. SHU reached the Northeast Conference championship game, before falling to Monmouth.

Campanelli Stadium serves as the home facility for the Brockton Rox of the independent Can American League.

The rain date for the game is Friday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at Campanelli Stadium.
