FAIRFIELD, CT - Junior Pete Kandybowicz (Massapequa, NY) was named the Akadema Northeast Conference Player of the Week today after helping his team qualify for the NEC Tournament for the second straight season.
Kandybowicz batted .500 (6-for-12) with six runs scored, five runs batted in, two home runs, two walks and one stolen base last week, in helping propel Sacred Heart to its second consecutive NEC Tournament berth with a three-game sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson.
The junior outfielder cracked a home run in each game of Friday's doubleheader and went 4-for-6 with five runs and four RBI in the 9-5 and 9-4 victories. He then closed the three-game FDU series on Saturday with two hits, one run, one RBI and one stolen base as the Pioneers came away with a 10-5 win and clinched an NEC postseason spot.
On the year, Kandybowicz is hitting a career-best .321 with 17 runs, 16 RBI, four doubles, one triple and three home runs.
